Labor Day is the traditional kickoff day for the Fall campaign season and YESTERDAY was the first day the Elections Office remained open until 9pm.
From September 2nd through November 1st, the Elections Office will be open these hours: 8am-9pm, Monday – Friday and 10am-9pm on Saturdays.
The primary purpose of keeping the Elections Office open into the evening is to accommodate the voting public – especially those displaced by the flood. The secondary purpose: it gives the elections staff time to handle each day’s workload within the same day so we don’t have to play catch-up (and pay overtime) at the end of the week.
What’s keeping the Elections Office busy these days? The upcoming September 9th school election and the November 4th general election. Thus far, 55 absentee ballots have been returned to the Elections Office for the school election and we have processed 6,116 absentee ballot requests for the general election.
Do you plan to vote in the September 9th school election? Why? Why not?
